How to pay
- At an acceptance facility, pay the application fee by check (personal, certified, cashier's or traveler's) or money order payable to "U.S. Department of State"; write the applicant's name and date of birth in the memo.
- The $35 acceptance fee is paid to the facility; ask the facility which payment methods it accepts.
- At a passport agency or center you pay by credit card, qualifying debit/prepaid card, or contactless payment (Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay).
- Renewing online: credit or debit card. Renewing by mail: check or money order.
- 1-3 day return delivery ($26.87) is not available for passport-card-only applications; cards are mailed First Class.
- Faster USPS Priority Mail Express shipping of your application to the State Department is paid to the acceptance facility; the price varies by location.
- The application and acceptance fees are not refundable. The $60 expedite fee can be refunded if expedited processing was not met.
