Urgent passport: all 27 passport agencies and centers

If you travel internationally within 14 days (or need a foreign visa within 28 days), an acceptance facility can't help in time. You need a free appointment at one of the State Department's 27 passport agencies or centers, with proof of travel.

How urgent appointments work

  • Passport agency appointments are free. Book through the State Department's Online Passport Appointment System; you can book for up to 7 people in your household.
  • You need proof of international travel within 14 calendar days, or of a foreign visa need within 28 calendar days. The Detroit, Miami and San Juan agencies are piloting appointments within 21 calendar days of urgent travel.
  • If you already applied and now need your passport urgently, call the National Passport Information Center at 1-877-487-2778 (TDD/TTY 1-888-874-7793), Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-10:00 p.m. ET and Saturday-Sunday 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. ET.
  • Bring a printed appointment confirmation, printed proof of international travel, your completed form, citizenship evidence and ID with photocopies, a passport photo, and payment (credit/debit card or contactless).
  • For a child under 16, both parents or guardians and the child must attend, or bring the required consent documents.
  • Agencies are by appointment only and closed on federal holidays. Acceptance facilities (post offices, libraries, clerks) cannot issue passports on the spot.
